Puaka Matariki Mural Painting

The Puaka Matariki Street Art Activation brings the spirit of Puaka Matariki into the heart of the city through the creation of a large-scale public mural at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Delivered by the Dunedin Street Art Trust in collaboration with nationally recognised street artists, Swift Mantis and Ephraim Russell, the project transforms a prominent public space into a vibrant visual artwork, Matariki Messenger. Created during the Puaka Matariki Festival, the mural invites residents and visitors to watch the artists at work, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look into the mural-making process.

This activation contributes to the growing visibility of te ao Māori and creative expression across Ōtepoti Dunedin, while leaving a lasting legacy beyond the festival itself.
